What type of people Will you be working with as a phlebotomy tech?

Along with the performing the duties of a phlebotomist, you will also come into contact with numerous amounts of other people. These people will perform numerous tasks, and will range from doctors to patients. Other people will run the tests on the samples that you give them. Even though your job may not be the biggest part, many of these people rely on correct data from your part of the job to do their part of the job.

Phlebotomy technicians are often needed everywhere, but there are places where you are more likely to be able to get a job. Some popular employers include Quest Diagnostics, Labcorp of America, Lab Corp., Dynacare Laboratories, and Examone. Out of these employers, you are most likely to get the best pay from Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp of America. Popular industries that use phlebotomy technicians include hospitals, the healthcare industry, professional analytical and laboratory services, health care services, and the blood collection industry which all have varying hourly rates for a salary.

Women make up about 85 percent of the workforce of phlebotomy technicians, and men come in at around 15 percent. Needless to say, the career is mainly dominated by the female gender. Women tend to make more than the men do, as well. Women make around $10.78 -$14.98 for their hourly salary, while men make somewhere around $10.27-$13.89 per hour.

When someone is sticking a needle into your vein to draw your blood, you sure hope that they have enough experience to know what they’re doing. At the same time, you do not want a more elderly person who cannot properly see your veins, and whose hand is not steady. Luckily enough, about 53 percent of technician’s have 1-4 years of experience. 16 percent have less than a year, but hopefully excelled during training! 14 percent of technicians have 5-9 years of experience. Once again, 13 percent of technicians have 10-19 years of experience, but only four percent have 20 years or more experience.
